Forgoing the folksy vibe common in eastern European restaurants, the well-groomed Tatra resembles a modern bistro, with high-backed leather chairs, exposed brickwork & grey walls. It’s the brainchild of a young Polish couple: the cheery wife manages front-of-house, while the husband cooks modern versions of their homeland’s cuisine. Starters such as dumplings filled with sauerkraut & wild mushrooms may lack a certain elegance, but artful presentation & moderate prices win over diners. A signature main course of roast duck with cabbage & dumplings is gutsy & filling – like most of the menu. Desserts play it safe, with only nalesnik (crêpe filled with cream cheese, rum, raisins & almonds) offering a true taste of Poland. To drink, the homemade flavoured vodkas are highly recommended; otherwise there’s a predominantly French wine list.
