Square Meal Review of Try ?

Its location opposite Honor Oak Park station makes Try popular with returning commuters, seduced by the colourful interior & good-value tapas. The concise menu has meat, fish & vegetarian sections, with two pre-selected platters to make deciding even easier. Meat tapas are comforting, homespun dishes such as chorizo & butterbean stew or meatballs in a deeply savoury sauce. No tapas joint is complete without patatas bravas & tortilla, but there are also inventive dishes like mushrooms stuffed with pungent Picos de Europa cheese. The short wine list includes some sherries by the glass, & there’s San Miguel on tap. Sunday roasts are a ‘Spanglish’ affair, so roast beef or garlicky chicken might come with green beans flecked with serrano ham. Alternatively, aubergine & Manchego bake makes a great vegetarian dish.

I was recently in Honor Oak and I was feeling rather peckish and the restaurant’s name Try really caught my eye it looking very well decorated and very lush I went inside with few colleges and we got seated the restaurant's look was very nice we were given the menus and the service was good and fairly priced. I must say that if I had read the 2 negative reviews on the restaurant I would not have gone to dine there but i have to express how much I enjoyed the food and would without a shadow of a doubt advise anybody who is curious to dine there. High quality. 5 stars well done.

I recently had the immense pleasure of dining at Try Tapas on a Thursday night around 8 30 pm, I was there with a group of my friends to celebrate my birthday, and were blown away with the high quality of the food, wines and service. I read a few of the previous reviews and I went there not expecting much but I am really content with my choice I’ve been to loads of restaurants for my previous birthdays but my favourite so far has got to be Try Tapas. Before I dined here I wasn’t very fond of Spanish food but dining here has totally changed my mind. It was an outstanding way of celebrating my birthday with my close friends. The tables were very clean and everything was very high standard. The waiter came as soon as we settled down and was very welcoming and sociable I didn’t really know what to order the pig cheeks looked stunning so I asked the waiter if I could speak to the chef himself and the waiter said that wasn’t a problem and he was very friendly, the chef came out and he was very pleasant he told me how the pig cheeks were made and they sounded exceptional the food didn’t take long at all and it was presented and served really well and it really tasted how it sounded absolutely exceptional and looked divine. I strongly recommend the pig cheeks. It was an unquestionable first class meal. When the bill came I looked at the total cost and absolutely shocked at how excellent the prices are defiantly reasonable and an affordable cost. Me and my friends would certainly without a doubt dine here again and strongly urge anybody else to do the same. I would undoubtedly rate this restaurant 5 star and would dine here again.

I have visited the restaurant many times when I am peckish for a Spanish snack alongside my family. It is local, reasonably priced, has a nice atmosphere etc.

The food is what you would expect, just average, you can't really go wrong with some chorizo sausages in some honey. They have an okay flavour, overall it doesn't blow your mind away, but it's only Honor Oak.

The service was appalling. We waited 20 minutes for our plates to be taken away, we didn't want to whistle at them because it's considered rude, but we had to get rid of our plates, we just wanted to go! The waiters were slow, poorly trained and had no care for the customers.
We pointed out to one waiter that he was ‘slow’ and the service was ‘terrible’, we just laughed and didn't apologize at all!

We then complained to the owner, and he took off the service charge, which was well-mannered, but we will not be returning after the poor service and bland food.

I thought it would be much better than it actually was…which is disappointing,
The patatas bravas came with a chilli marie rose sauce rather than the usual, which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so awful.
The mussles were gorgeous if a bit salty, but if you love a salty touch I highly recommend them! The bread was lovely as were the olives but I think these are bought in.
The service was patchy and not super helpful…and when the bill came it was actually quite expensive. Wish it was better…maybe I'll give it one more chance.

The octopus by the way was horrible!
