Yo-ho-ho rum bar Portside Parlour has moved lock, stock and barrel from its pop-up on Broadway Market to a permanent berth in Shoreditch. An old Chatham chandler’s yard appears to have supplied the props for this dimly lit, cosy cabin where good-time grog is housed in custom-built lockers. Cocktails are in ship-shape condition, so get your lips round Autopilot (an absinthe-laced triple rum punch as lethal as any U-boat torpedo) or try Sink a Poet (Johnnie Walker Black whisky ‘re-blended’ with Talisker single malt, sherry and bitters in a Chartreuse-rinsed glass). Non-rum recipes such as Lawnmower Sling (Hendrick’s gin, nettle, elderflower, orange blossom water and mezcal) also float our boat. To eat, expect sophisticated piscine tapas such as baby octopus terrine, seafood croquettes and devilled whitebait – although private dining curated by Sager & Wilde is due to come on board soon.
