Re-launched in new premises near London Fields station, this east London sibling of Soho’s Ducksoup now boasts a full kitchen rather than the toastie machines which were available at its original, ill-fated site on Amhurst Road. Breakfasts of pastries, cereals and eggs lead on to lunchtime salads and sandwiches, including the signature Reuben with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and wasabi mayo. Meanwhile, dinner brings more adventurous plates akin to Ducksoup’s offer – think char-grilled quail with labneh, broad beans and za’atar, bacon chop with laverbread and cockles or chopped raw duck with Tropea onion, green chilli and Indo crackers. ‘Ferments, pickles, salts and smokies’ (aka nibbles) also show off impeccably sourced produce in clever combinations, while pudding might bring Shaker lemon pie with clotted cream. Daytime juices and coffees give way to trendy organic and biodynamic wines come evening.
