DUE TO OPEN JULY 2014
Following the success of their Beak Street original, the guys from Flat Iron are taking over the premises formerly occupied by La Giaconda. Like its sibling, this democratic steakhouse will specialise in serving its namesake – an underrated shoulder cut of beef also known as ‘top blade’ or ‘butler’s steak’, presented on an oblong wooden board with a fun-sized meat cleaver for doing the business. Also expect some top sides, including dripping-cooked chips and garlicky spinach, as well as dinky salads. If the original is anything to go by, the menu will also feature honest-to-goodness burgers and desserts such as salt-caramel mousse. With steak-friendly wines offered by the glass, it’s sure to be another affordable treat for young-at-heart Londoners. No bookings.
