‘Gourmet life food’ specialists Vitao have teamed up with the guys from vegan Vantra (a defunct Soho eatery) and settled in a permanent new home on bustling Oxford Street. All manner of special-needs diets are catered for including gluten-free, macrobiotic, low-GI and low-sugar, while the kitchen favours superfoods and ‘raw’ dishes cooked below 48oC to preserve their essential nutrients. You’ll find ‘small living plates’ ranging from nachos (flax-seed tortilla chips with pineapple salsa and guacamole) to marinated organic tofu in tomato sauce with miso and raisins, plus bigger offerings divided into ‘raw’ and ‘steamed’ – the latter might include curry laksa (coconut curry soup with wheat-free noodles, greens etc). There are plenty of vegan cakes and desserts too. Liquid nourishment is provided by juices, shakes, smoothies, teas and ‘vespresso’ drinks. Note: cash only (for ‘carbon footprint’ reasons, apparently).
