Notting Hill’s Caribbean soul lives on in Boom Burger, a rude-and-ready fast-food joint beneath the Westway that blends Jamaican attitude with a show-stopping menu. It’s a tiny, no-frills site, with an open-kitchen, utilitarian booths and Rastafarian colours allowing the first-rate burgers (served in plastic baskets) to take centre stage. The perfectly pink, spiced beef patties, topped with cheese and bacon jam in a soft brioche bun, can compete with the best in town, and we’ve rarely had a better chicken burger than their slow-cooked jerk option with mango and pawpaw sauce. Elsewhere, chilli saltfish fritters kick things off nicely, and crispy plantain fries make for a wonderfully different side. With the sun shining on the alfresco tables, a rum punch in your hand and beats blaring from the Portobello Vintage Market, Boom is a knockout. Takeaways too.
