Square Meal Review of Boom Burger ?

Notting Hill’s Caribbean soul lives on in Boom Burger, a rude-and-ready fast-food joint beneath the Westway that blends Jamaican attitude with a show-stopping menu. It’s a tiny, no-frills site, with an open-kitchen, utilitarian booths and Rastafarian colours allowing the first-rate burgers (served in plastic baskets) to take centre stage. The perfectly pink, spiced beef patties, topped with cheese and bacon jam in a soft brioche bun, can compete with the best in town, and we’ve rarely had a better chicken burger than their slow-cooked jerk option with mango and pawpaw sauce. Elsewhere, chilli saltfish fritters kick things off nicely, and crispy plantain fries make for a wonderfully different side. With the sun shining on the alfresco tables, a rum punch in your hand and beats blaring from the Portobello Vintage Market, Boom is a knockout. Takeaways too.

  1. Boom Burger - Notting Hill, London 05/12/20140 Comments Recently I popped down to Portobello Road, Notting Hill, to check out a new burger joint that has been on everyone’s lips since it opened, Boom Burger. It’s ‘USP’, so to speak, is its dishing up of Jamaican themed burgers. With very little idea of what the hell that could entail, I headed down to try it out. It’s nestled in a tiny unit on Portobello Market row and from the outside looks like nothing. Inside has a couple of booths and a large open fry kitchen which you order straight from. The menu is small and burger-centric: 3 different burgers (Jerk chicken, veggie or beef) and plantain chips or fries. Their signature beef burger, the ‘Boom Burger’ comes in at £8 with cheese and thing called ‘bacon jam’ which sounded so marvelous that it immediately decided my order...

  2. Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its burger time! I promise that's my only reference to Cool Runnings in this post. But I had to, you see, as right on Portobello Road, and a short walk from Ladbroke Grove tube station is Jamaican burger joint Boom Burger. I'd been invited down by Boom Burger to try out the menu, which I was pretty excited about. Walking from the tube, past Flyover, a bar pumping out Jamaican tunes with a clientele who were already leaping around at 6.15 on a Tuesday evening, I had a pang of nostalgia for the colourful, unconventional feel of an area I'd spent a fair bit of time in the early 2000s...
