Square Meal Review of Scoff & Banter Bloomsbury (afternoon tea) ?

Proximity to the Dominion Theatre and blockbuster hit We Will Rock You guarantees that Scoff & Banter does brisk business with the pre-show crowd. But it comes to life even earlier than that, when affordable afternoon tea is called upon to revive assorted visitors including tourists weary from the British Museum and Covent Garden. The simple offering and smart setting work well as a package – the marble floors, modern art and rich fabrics providing an attractive, but not overly traditional backdrop to a classic tea. For £15, guests are presented with a proper three-tiered cake stand comprising one layer of sandwiches (salmon, cucumber, ham, egg mayonnaise), one of cakes and sweets, and the obligatory scones with clotted cream and jam. Unlimited tea always goes down well too.
