A boozing landmark on Portobello Road for decades, The Duke of Wellington has received a makeover and a new lease of life – thanks to the people at Young’s Brewery. There’s more than a touch of retro rock and roll about the interior with its pop art, LPs on the walls and bright primary colours, while staff keep thirsts quenched with Young’s ales, guest beers, well-chosen wines and Portobello Road gin. Eat in the bar from a menu of small plates, snacks and classics ranging from pork belly lollipops to beer-battered haddock and chips or head upstairs to Finch’s – a smart dining room with a more ambitious repertoire. New season’s lamb Wellington is the signature dish, but you could also try poached rainbow trout with quinoa, lentil, cucumber and avocado salad, followed by dark chocolate tart with kirsch cherries and blackcurrant sorbet.
