Famed as a studenty den of iniquity, whisky and live music, Filthy McNasty’s is being cleaned up, sanitised and prepared for a new life as a gastropub, but for the time being the premises are playing host to Meatlover – a pop-up joint dealing in ‘American dive bar classics’ and potent cocktails. You can hang out at the bar with a bottle of Blue Moon or Brooklyn lager and the usual foodie suspects (buffalo wings, nachos, hush puppies), or drift through to the restaurant for something more filling. As well as burgers and pulled pork, you can also get BBQ brisket sandwiches, buttermilk-fried chicken and the special Meatlover (a meaty blow-out sampler from the entire menu), plus sides of ‘pit beans’, sesame slaw and bone marrow mash. After that, go for broke with a chocolate brownie sundae.
