Previously Navajo Joe, this funky diner and bar brings a taste of America’s Deep South to Covent Garden – it also signals a new direction for the long-established Maxwells Group. Spread over three floors of a converted warehouse, the interior is a mash-up of old-school Americana with an urban edge – think steel-topped tables, scarlet banquettes and vintage Coca Cola signs on the earthy brick walls. Joe’s signature dish is smoky ‘beer can’ chicken carved at the table, but the menu offers a whole range of indulgent southern fare. Favourites on our recent visit included melting Montery Jack rice balls (ask for extra mustard sauce), the generous Longhorn burger, and Oreo ice cream with hot fudge sauce. Crowd-pleasing cocktails, craft beers and a great Tequila list are further pluses; while the downstairs bar is a popular spot for the after-work crowd and passing tourists to party.
