Square Meal Review of Café Route ?

A jack-of-all-trades for Dalston residents, this cute little café, bistro and deli is a bustling hub of Med-inspired food and warm service from dawn to dusk. The cosmopolitan breakfast menu ranges far and wide, taking in various veggie options as well as Mediterranean, Spanish and Turkish combos alongside full-English fry-ups, fruity granola and pastries. Later on, unusual, eclectic salads such as roasted aubergine with pomegranate molasses and herbs are a highlight for health-conscious types who are bored with the usual niçoise and Caesar assemblages. Otherwise, lunch might bring grilled salmon and vegetable lasagne, while evening meals are fleshed out with antipasti platters and more ambitious ideas – the pan-fried sea bass with zingy salsa verde is recommended. Monmouth coffees, Kandula teas, juices and soft drinks provide liquid refreshment.

It’s nice to see new shops, buildings popping up from nowhere...
