Having established Barrafina as one of Soho’s no-bookings hotspots, Sam and Eddie Hart have opened a younger sibling – this time in Covent Garden. The new venture occupies a high-ceilinged corner site with wraparound windows, and should strike a familiar chord with fans of the original: at street level there is a long marble bar, complete with around 30 stools and an open kitchen, while the self-contained downstairs area will be given over to private events. Barrafina’s long-time executive chef Nieves Barragán Mohaco is overseeing the menu, so expect a mix of classic plates, fresh seafood, more contemporary riffs and top-notch Spanish wines – plus some new ideas from the Josper grill. The majority of tables are available on a first come, first served basis, although unlike Soho, this branch does accept bookings for groups of eight or more in the private dining room.
