Square Meal Review of The Diner Gloucester Road ?

As its up-front moniker suggests, this chain re-imagines the classic American diner of a million movie scenes through a London lens. Jocks & nerds are notable by their absence; in the Diner’s vinyl booths, you’ll find only cool cats. The menu is a trawl through roadside classics such as meat loaf & mash or mac & cheese, alongside many variations on the burger & fries theme. All six varieties of fries are particularly enticing – from the ‘wet’ version with gravy to the ultra-calorific chilli cheese numbers. Breakfasts come in big US portions – try stacks of pancakes, huevos rancheros or the ‘hungry man’ blow out with bottomless coffee. The Diner recreates the archetypal experience lovingly, apart from the service: the occasional ‘have a nice day’ would go a long way.

  1. The Diner is a new edition to Kensington, but is part of a chain with other restaurants across london. This is not, by any means to be confused with the horrendous Ed’s Diner, which always seems to thrive. I went recently, and i wouldn’t recommend it. Unless you enjoy cheap burgers and soggy onion rings. Inside the Diner (Kensington) looks like your classic american eatery. Very modern, black tiled walls, booths and a couple of tables out front...

  2. The Diner has headed West and come over all Southern. The cosy new branch at Gloucester Road (conveniently just across the road from the tube) has the same favourites as the other branches, but with a few southern-inspired dishes...
