Square Meal Review of Galeto ?

Chicken-themed eateries are all over the capital these days, and Galeto has joined the party with its Brazilian street-food take on our favourite feathered bird. Top billing goes to juicy half-chickens that are marinated, grilled and doused in a subtle, coriander-laced sauce, while the rest of the short menu offers impressively light salt-cod fritters, gooey cheese-filled dough balls and refreshing palm heart salad, plus heavily seasoned chicken burgers with skin-on fries and some indulgent tropical desserts. To drink, try Brahma beer, a turbo-charged caipirinha, well-priced South American wines or an invigorating acai-berry smoothie. The restaurant’s colourful frontage, gaily painted dining rooms and smiley staff perpetuate the sunny-side-up ideal of Brazilian culture, while hip-shaking samba beats fuel the Rio Carnival vibes. Galeto should really come into its own in 2014, as Brazil World Cup fever starts to grip the nation.

  1. Split over two floors, Galeto occupies the premises formerly taken by an old Italian restaurant. It’s a brightly decorated place with some big tables, but the restaurant was almost deserted on my Friday lunchtime visit with Templeton Peck, Resume and Socialist Worker. Not a heartening sign. The service was friendly, helpful and quick...

    The List :: Galeto

    Natalie arrived as we were finishing our drinks, so we decided to head off to the recently opened colourful Brazilian restaurant/bar called Galeto for some food. Mary is obsessed with Nandos so she was pretty delighted to find that the main thing on the menu is 1/2 chicken, marinated in house for 24 hours served with chips and a choice of sauces. We all went for it with the fruity barbecue sauce, plus beers and wine on the side. We were all very impressed, not least because it is extremely affordable considering that it is right in the middle of Dean Street. Caipirinhas are £6, all desserts are under £4 and so on - cheap cheap cheap! I might need to go for the Rump Cup Burger next time if I can tear myself away from the chicken. Street artist Milo Tchais has done a great job decorating it too...

  4. A: Back in May, Dean Street welcomed a new South American resident Galeto to a street flowing with French, Italian and Asian neighbours. Not to be confused with the Italian ice-cream gelato, you can’t miss Galeto for its eye popping rainbow shade out front and the graffiti style wallpapers inside. L: Shout outs to the amazing Fabricia, who recommended the starters Coxinha de Frango and Bolinhos de Bacalhau...
