Square Meal Review of Disco ?

Check in at a camp Pan Am booth for a London re-run of the world’s wildest nightclub, New York’s Studio 54. This time, the party is in Soho and everyone is invited – provided you’re equipped with guest membership, booked at least 48 hours in advance (expect to pay £10 before midnight most evenings, and £20 thereafter). True to the name, D.I.S.C.O rules at this homage to mid-70s Manhattan courtesy of barmeister Charlie Gilks (Bunga Bunga, Maggie’s etc), with sounds from Donna Summer, Sylvester and Le Freak (C’est Chic), plus period cocktails including Harvey Wallbanger, sloe comfortable screw, Tequila sunrise and other retro-inspired rinses. Like Studio 54, Disco encourages wild abandon: Bianca Jagger’s white horse (a £95 punch for five to share) or a Moët & Chandon and Belvedere raspberry vodka-laced concoction served in a glittering discoball should soon see you boogieing like John Travolta. >

Tables are modelled on cassette tapes and vinyls, and fancy dress and choreographed dancing is encouraged. From the cocktail menu try the vintage mixes dating back to the very specific year of 1973 – White Russians, Mai Tais and Singapore Slings. For something more contemporary (circa: now) flip to the other side of the menu where Pornstar Martinis are mixed with large amounts of chilli. Take larger groups just so you can get the club’s signature 10-person sharer cocktail: a mix of Belvdere Black Raspberry vodka, Moët et Chandon Brut NV Champagne, pineapple and passion fruit juice served in a giant disco-ball, for the princely sum of £350...
