With restaurants and shacks in Camden and Islington, the long-running Cottons brand is synonymous with Caribbean sunshine, soul food and strong spirits. Their latest Rhum Shack is housed within the Shoreditch Boxpark and aims to put locals in a feel-good, calypso frame of mind – helped along by occasional limbo-dancing competitions and clanking steel bands out on the huge terrace. An extensive drinks list piles on the rum – no fewer than 250 brands, served straight or in racy cocktails with names like Caribbean yellow bird or sorrel sling. On the food front, expect a buffet at lunchtime and West Indian small plates in the evening, supplemented by grilled meats from the jerk pit, curried mutton with rice and peas, oxtail and butterbean casserole, brown chicken stew and puds such as mango and banana crème brûlée.
