Square Meal Review of Mr Fogg's ?

The sight of a liveried footman outside an anonymous W1 townhouse signifies that one has arrived at intrepid explorer Phileas J Fogg’s mansion – or so it seems. Welcome to the latest wheeze from Old Etonian clubmeister Charlie Gilkes (Barts, Maggie’s). Inside, the eccentric toff theme pervades an atmospheric, well-upholstered drawing room imaginatively decorated with souvenirs of the fictional adventurer’s foreign escapades. Staff in period costume maintain the sense of illusion while delivering madcap monikered cocktails and premium punchbowls to share – from Bombay punchet and blinker to knickerbocker à la monsieur and maiden’s blush (a sour made from Old Tom gin, white absinthe and raspberry jam). The bar is big on pitch-perfect old-school quaffs, and there’s also an impressive range of spirits and wines – plus tiffin served on vintage cake stands. All in all, a spiffing do, old boy!

Bruton Lane is probably the grimmest part of Mayfair, winding its way off the South-Eastern corner of Berkeley Square. If you head down there, you’ll come across Mr. Fogg’s, but keep your eyes peeled because the place is missable, with only a couple of windows, invitingly glowing away, and an immaculately tailored doorman to give you clues that something special may be here. Hell, the place isn’t even on Streetview yet...
