A stylish mezzanine is just one asset at this glass-fronted branch of the Jamies chain, which is handily placed on London Wall at the heart of the Square Mile. Sandwiches and burgers hit the spot at lunchtime, along with small plates of smoked mackerel pâté or hummus with flatbread, but there are also some more substantial dishes for those who want to go the whole hog – perhaps classic Caesar salad, fishcakes, Cumberland sausages or poached salmon with pickled baby vegetables, crème fraîche and dill dressing. Nibbles and sharing platters do duty in the evening, when drinking and socialising are on most people’s minds. Expect a full quota of beers, cocktails and an easy-to-follow wine list with some inspired ’off-piste’ and ‘serendipity’ selections. This is a popular party venue, which can also be hired out for free at the weekends.
