The Square Mile’s only working distillery is a copper and chrome joy to behold, with the still providing the focal point of this spartan, saloon-style basement off Fleet Street. Take an ad hoc guided tour (£8, including a large City of London G&T) or book ahead for a more comprehensive, 90-minute gin masterclass overseen by distiller Jamie Baxter himself (£35). Barflies will delight at the Distillery’s staggering range of painlessly priced gins: try little-known British heroes such as Langton’s No. 1 from the Lake District and Warner Edwards’ Harrington Dry (produced in small batches on a Northamptonshire farm). The food offering runs from salted savoury bar snacks to various deli-style sharing platters.
