With its loud neon signage, La Forchetta on London’s Upper Street is pretty hard to miss. Yet somehow this little Italian restaurant has the reputation of a hidden gem, its name whispered from person to person alongside tales of to-die-for gelato and crazily authentic pizzas. Inside the glass fronted dining room you’ll find a warm welcome from relaxed, cheerful staff – a rarity on such a busy city street – in a comfortable, unfussy but attractive setting. La Forchetta’s menu is full of those favourite traditional Italian dishes, fish and seafood being a specialty with great pasta also available, but it appears to be those wood fired pizzas that really have guests raving, the crusts as thin and as crisp as any you’ll find in Naples. Desserts, including authentic gelato, are wholly traditional too. Extremely affordable, the prices lower than most in the area, La Forchetta is a real treat at a fraction of the price of more well known and less high quality restaurants.
