Fresh from its success in Beirut, BRGR.CO has jumped onto London’s careering burger bandwagon with the launch of a new joint in Soho. ‘Character cow heads’ created by local artists are a feature of the funky interior (they will be auctioned off for charity each month), while the burgers are built from 28-day aged Buccleuch beef. They come in three sizes (up to 8oz) and are supplemented by a medium-rare ‘butcher’s cut’ and a couple of veggie alternatives, with five sorts of chips to choose from (‘regular’, ‘messy’, parmesan truffle etc). Starters bring crisp buttermilk onion stacks or mac and cheese, while the drinks list touts homemade lemonade with a choice of spirits, plus a handful of wines and American Huber beer. No bookings, but takeaways and local deliveries should suit deskbound Soho workers.

MESSI PALATE! :: Yep! Yet another burger joint – BRGR.CO Soho W1F
One of the latest new burger places, is Beirut joint BRGR.CO in Wardour Street, which opened in December. It was my chosen destination for a catch up with an old friend. An enormous waft of charcoal grill hits you without fail upon arrival, as does the smoke from the bustling open plan kitchen. I probably wouldn’t recommend this place for a pre-dinner before an evening out because you will leave smelling of burgers (unless that floats your boat though)...

The Picky Glutton :: Patty and Bun vs Brgr.co review – burger bun fight
London doesn’t seem to be tiring of burgers. Since my gut-busting 35 burger roundup that finished back in August, still more burger restaurants have opened. Two of the latest, Patty and Bun and Brgr.co, opened within weeks of each other. I therefore thought it’d be interesting to pit them against each other, not only to see who’d came out on top, but if either of them are good enough to displace Honest Burger, Burger and Lobster and Tongue ‘n’ Cheek from my meat-loving affections...

Another week, another new burger joint to try. Us burger lovers are really being spoilt at the moment! Personally I think it’s great to see more places open up, bring em on! Let’s just hope the standards are up to scratch hey… It was time to review BRGR. We both ordered the 8oz ‘Masterpiece’ which contains multiple ‘blends’ of meat. It’s good quality and it was cooked well, medium rare. It reminded me a bit of Tommi’s beef, which looked chunky and a bit like tuna! Yet it lacked any seasoning and the outside of the patty sometimes had a subtle hint of charcoally flavour which wasn’t overly pleasant...

BRGR is rubbish. There isn’t a massive point in writing a great deal because I would advise anybody from going there and W1 offers a far better array of burgers within spitting distance but to summarise: The burger patties are all uniform, flattened and too large in diameter. There should be some element of challenge to eat it. Only one type of cooking is ‘advised’ per burger, which gives the impression of expertise and to-order cooking, but is actually a passive-aggressive assembly line. My 6oz, even though medium-rare, didn’t taste of anything. Except warm mince. My cheesy fries were just regular fries with some cold grated cheese chucked on. 4am Kebabish style. The space is too smoky (it stinks of well-done burgers, which is how the house burger is served!) and is in serious need of better ventilation...

Having recently experienced near burger perfection at Patty&Bun I thought I’d give newly opened BRGR.CO a go. It’s in a pretty good spot right in the heart of Wardour Street in Soho and as I walked in and smelt the waft of smokey grilled beef, things were looking positive. Sadly however it went downhill from there. The first of two small dining rooms had an open kitchen and quite a buzzy atmosphere but the one in which we were seated lacked any personality whatsoever. The tables were minuscule and the wooden chairs were uncomfortable – it wasn’t the sort of place we wanted to spend very long...
