Square Meal Review of Blue Boar Smokehouse ?

Named after the Blue Boar’s Head – an inn that served the workers of Westminster for more than six centuries – this self-styled ‘smokehouse and bar’ takes its inspiration from America’s renowned ‘pit masters’, with the emphasis on marinated and glazed meat and fish smoked over coal and wood. The result is a menu that deploys top-notch British produce for a mix of home-grown flavours and transatlantic ideas. The Blue Boar’s signature dishes look to America’s Deep South (think baby back ribs, pulled rare-breed pork or treacle-marinated brisket), whilst Britain has its say with the likes of shaved smoked beef with quince and Berkswell cheese, Yorkshire rose veal T-bone with caper and anchovy butter or Loch Duart salmon with sorrel and artichokes. The venue also has two private dining rooms where groups can partake of specially created feasting menus.

    inher30s :: Blue Boar Smokehouse

    Westminster appears to be a bit of a food wasteland, sure we have the frankly excellent Cinnamon Club, but that can’t seriously be it. Or is all the money going into creating bird houses and the like instead? Perhaps that’s the hole the Blue Boar Smokehouse sought to fill, a restaurant situated inside the Intercontinental hotel by New Scotland Yard. While the idea of a smokehouse (messy, greasy, charred flesh) is a little incongruous with the stuffiness of Westminster, the decor is clearly taking its cues from politics-land and is reminiscent of a gentleman’s club, all heavy white tablecloths and acres of dark wood. We have to try and mess up our tablecloth a little and so an order of ribs is up for starters. In an entirely uncivilised fashion, I tear into this, teeth first and the taste is fantastic...

  2. I was in a serious mood for ribs after a loooonggg week and knew that Blue Boar Smokehouse, a hotel restaurant in Pimlico that specialises in deep Southern American dishes, is particularly known for its spare ribs. Perfect excuse to head over to a part of time I don’t usually frequent to get my fingers dirty...

    Cooksister :: Blue Boar Smokehouse & Bar review

    Situated in the Westminster Intercontinental Hotel and named after the Blue Boar’s Head, an inn that served the workers of Westminster for more than 600 years, the Blue Boar interior is all dark wood, leather banquettes and Anglo-American-style butchness. The bar boasts the odd clubby tartan tub chair and a secluded seating area full of Chesterfield sofas; while dramatic lighting, lamps with what appear to be vintage telescope tripod legs and a line of stylised metal boar’s heads along one wall complete the picture in the dining room. According to the blurb, the restaurant uses techniques perfected by American pit masters (charcoal ovens, slow cooking, smoking, rubs and marinades) and applies them to the best of British produce...

  4. The Blue Boar Smokehouse & Bar is a newly opened restaurant and bar that forms part of the also newly opened Intercontinental Hotel on Tothill Street in Westminster. The Blue Boar’s décor is understandably very five-star hotel-esque – there’s lots of strong oak panelling throughout, and it has been styled to cater to the suits working around the corner at the Houses of Parliament...

  5. Housed in the Westminster InterContinental hotel near St James’ Park, the Blue Boar is an elegant dining room with the most beautiful dessert table we have ever seen. A singer strumming away on his guitar to some of our favourite songs, bottomless Bloody Marys and Bucks Fizz, now THIS is the way to spend a Sunday afternoon...
