Taking its name from the Latin for marble, this stylish brasserie on the first floor of the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel plays with the luxurious art-deco theme, evoking the 1930s with its curvaceous lines, glamorous textiles, furnishings and muted colours. The interior may hark back to another age, but the food is bang up to date – from starters such as goats’ cheese and warm roasted beetroot salad to a selection of sexy dessert cocktails (Bakewell tart with vodka, Kahlùa and Amaretto, anyone?) In between, the kitchen aims to please allcomers with plates of pasta, beer-battered cod and chips, dry-aged steaks and pan-fried sea bass with herb crushed potatoes, baby fennel and citrus butter sauce – all accompanied by a well-spread wine list. If you fancy an extra dose of nostalgia, why not round off with a nightcap in the hotel’s Glenn Miller Bar?
