Obscured from view amid the old light-industrial units of Ransome’s Dock, this established bar (originally a pop-up) is still something of a local secret. Inside it looks like a brick-and-tiled workshop straight out of the 1930s, but the drinks are bang up to date, from Meantime ales on tap to trendy cocktails – try dinner with Delores or when doves cry (gin, nettle syrup, cassis and lemon) alongside negroni and other classics. Organic lunch dishes such as braised pork broth and roast vegetables with savoy cabbage or seared mackerel with roasted beets and horseradish dressing can be brought in from Jun Tanaka’s Street Kitchen next door. Burgers are also available at weekends, when special dos are held in the adjacent events/arts space, Testbed1. Doodle to your heart's content on a giant blackboard wall; chalk is provided.
