Jason Atherton’s head chef Paul Hood has helped to make Pollen Street Social one of the hottest restaurants in the capital, and he is being rewarded with his own gaff in the shape of The Social Eating House. Occupying what was sushi joint Ukai Soho, the new venture will be spread over three areas, with the main restaurant on the ground floor, plus a chef’s table and 15-seat wraparound bar in the basement (provisional moniker Employees). The interior will be defined by Victorian furniture and antiques, with ‘bistro’ prices and an even more flexible, informal approach than Pollen Street Social – although innovative modern British themes will underpin the culinary style. There will also be a standalone bar upstairs (working title the Blind Pig), with its own entrance on Poland Street – perfect for cocktails and socialising in Soho.
