Square Meal Review of Patty & Bun ?

Following pop-up stints in Battersea’s Doodle Bar and the Endurance pub in Soho, burger entrepreneur Joe Grossman has pitched camp on James Street with a permanent site. The menu offers an affordable’ selection of handmade, British-bred patties in brioche buns, with oddball names ranging from Smokey Robinson, Ari Gold and Foghorn Leghorn chicken to Jose Jose (laced with chilli). A few garnishes, chips with rosemary salt and some weekly specials complete the short menu, while the sharp drinks list concentrates on a tight selection of cult beers, spirits and funky cocktails such as rum ‘n’ ting and an Appleton 12-year-old rum punch. Takeaways are also available.

    Eat My Heart Out :: Review: Patty & Bun

    The decor is simple but it works perfectly well with the image they are trying to create. The metal pipes assembled tables, chipboard back benches and cardboard wall arts all come together like a masterpiece. Ohhh and great music choice too!...

  2. A word of warning, because of its glowing reviews you will most likely see Patty & Bun, not from its wonderful exterior, but from the queue that has formed outside. They do offer a take-away service, but we decided against it. We queued in the rain on a Saturday at around 3.30pm, optimistically thinking ‘people won’t be eating now will they?’ Well, when it comes to Patty & Bun people don’t really seem to care when they eat. Speaks for itself really…

    SamTheFoodFan :: Patty & Bun

    Patty& Bun is nestled on a side street just behind Selfridges, in a neighbourhood that is bursting at the seems with 'Dirty Burger' joints. Competition is tough, but arriving 10 minutes after opening and with a queue already out the door, this had to be good. And it was. The restaurant is cramped, seating only 30 covers, but quirky. I liked the artwork drawn on cardboard boxes, the school desk type tables and the dance hall soundtrack...

  4. We tried Patty & Bun‘s uber-delicious Ari Gold burger last year and declared it the best dish that day a year ago. This year they were promoting their new Ron Jeremy burger...

    YUMMEI :: Patty & Bun - Bond Street - London

    Holy mother of cheese. Mark my words you will be screaming those exact same words. How do I know this? Because that was my reaction when I took my first bite of what-so-far is the mother of all burgers that has hit London. Along St. Jame's Street just off Bond Street is Patty and Bun. London's worst kept secret...

    Frenchy love food :: PATTY & BUN - Burgers

    Today I walked in West End and I fell on the restaurant Patty & Bun accidentally. Because I heard and read many good reviews about their burgers, I decided to go there for a late lunch!...

  7. Patty & Bun only found a permanent home in October and has quickly developed quite a following. Prior to this, they’d made a number of acclaimed cameo appearances, popping up at places like The Doodle Bar in Battersea and The Endurance on Berwick Street. We arrived at 7:15 on a cold Tuesday evening, by which time the queue already extended out across the pavement. Don’t worry though, this isn’t going to be one of those annoying blog posts that just complains about queues! We did wait for the best part of an hour, but this was what we expected. P&B only seats thirty, so realistically, demand is always going to outstrip supply. If you don’t want to queue, remember, there are plenty of other options elsewhere in town!...

    Culinary Creep :: Patty and Bun, Marylebone

    Patty Bun are doing brilliant things at their Marylebone location. Lines at peak times are getting longer and longer as word gets out. The burgers are brilliant and I can’t fault anything that they’re doing and my only regret is that I haven’t tried all the burgers on the menu...

    Rocket & Squash :: Patty and Bun

    Patty and Bun, just north of Bond Street station on St James Street, is very firmly in the top tier. Judging by the queues, most of you know this already. But I think it’s worth noting them here anyway, so you get the idea of what I think it means to be categorised in this way. First and foremost their burger patty is densely packed, juicy and flavoursome. Clearly they make their burgers with quality beef and a well-judged fat content. On each of the three or four times I’ve eaten there, my burgers have been perfectly two fingers up to Westminster Council medium rare too...

  10. I first tried Patty & Bun in the middle of last year when they had a short term residency at The Endurance bar in Soho, after reading some very favourable reviews. At that point Patty & Bun offered a very limited menu and a slightly different set of burgers, but they offered up an awful lot of promise. Quite a lot has changed since then and Patty & Bun now have there own place. It is growing more and more popular...

    Burgerac :: Patty & Bun Ari Gold

    If you want to stand out in a crowded marketplace full of people touting similar wares, you'll need a first class product and a charming personality. Luckily for Patty & Bun, the burgers (developed with Mark Jankel of Street Kitchen - more on that in a mo) are ace, and its head honcho, Joe Grossman, is one of the most endearingly ebuillient chaps you're ever likely to meet...

  12. I remember the time when Patty & Bun was doing his pop up in Doodle Bar or even the days of the Endurance pub. The charismatic and friendly Joe working hard to give London his take on a burger, probably the same initiative that created movements such as Meatwagon before becoming a mass production. Similar menu from the beginning with a couple twists. Six burgers, wings, and fries. New location in Marylebone area, a small place with first in first serve policy. Industrial style with cardboard art, strong burger aromas, and some sort of disco music as background...

  13. When I first started writing this blog I had ideas that I would be talking a lot about burgers, you can never have too many burgers, right? Wrong, I think I've currently hit a bun wall, as I'm starting to crave anything but. It was much more exciting six months ago, when a couple of burger restaurants popped up, now I can't keep track of them all, still when I finally sit down to enjoy a burger I realise why I became obsessed with them in the first place...

    Burgaffair :: Patty & Bun

    Patty & Bun, which has just opened, was the next on the hit list. Opening round the corner from both Meat Liqour and Tommi’s how on earth would it be able to compete right? It already however comes with a big reputation, and based on the queues we’re sure they’ll be alright...

    love2feed :: eat: patty and bun joe

    She says: Burgers, sliders – big and small, which is the bestest of them all? The topic of ‘best burger’ in London is a rather contentious subject with varying degrees of opinion, but one that I’m happy to debate till the cows come home. Yet another new burger joint Patty & Bun Joe has popped up in my hood and I must say the burgers are indeed delish! Patty & Bun Joe joins a host of recent ‘pop-up turned restaurant’ ventures in London, plonking itself right in the heart of London on James St, nearby to one of my favourite sushi haunts Atari-ya. Taking an intellectual guess, I’m thinking the ‘Joe’ in said establishment’s name is representative of burg-entreneur founder Joe Grossman – the man behind this latest meat sensation. Arriving at about 7.30pm, we wait patiently for about 15 – 20 minutes in the line while the strong waft of burger smell illuminates in the air...

  16. So I went to my first "bloggers" meet up! Well, kind of. We actually got together to find out more about a cool new mobile app, NuffnangX, so we could read more blogs, but still - it was really fun to meet like minded people doing the same kind of things. And absolutely hilarious to watch us all whip our various cameras out around the table. I almost felt like I was getting over my Asian-phobia. The lovely omgthisisamazing, lady half of love2feed, Plum Project, Snippets of Life and I braved the cold to wait a very chilly 20 minutes at Patty & Bun for some of the hottest buns in the capital right now...

    samphire and salsify :: Patty&Bun

    After a string of successful pop ups Patty&Bun has found itself a permanent home in James Street just round the corner from Selfridges. Being only a stones throw away from Meat Liquor and Tommi’s Burger Joint, this is the area you need to visit to get your burger fix. The outside The restaurant is only small, seating around 30 and has a very simple appearance. With wooden chairs, exposed piping and low hanging lights it isn’t the warmest place to sit but the loud reggae music gives the place a great atmosphere – it was a really fun place to be...

  18. London is experiencing a burger revolution at the moment. However, one of the best burgers I’ve ever tasted (‘Ari Gold’ Burger) was by the hands of a team that only seemed to do pop-up restaurants. When I learned that Patty & Bun were finally opening a restaurant, I couldn’t wait to try out some more of their burgers...

  19. So Patty & Bun have done it, they've turned previous popups at Doodle bar, Endurance and We Feast to there very own restaurant in the heart of London's burger district and no one deserves it more. I met Joe briefly at We Feast back in August and the enthusiasm he has is extreme; and the passion he has for burgers infectious. Its opening day at Patty & Bun and me and the Mrs have decided to pay the joint a visit. We arrive at around 18:30 and we only had about a 5 minute wait before we were in...

    Tuck & Vine :: Patty and Bun - the restaurant

    Joe Grossman is a man on a mission. An alumnus of London Bridge restaurant Roast, he's taken the London burger scene by the horns and under the 'Patty and Bun' moniker has held numerous pop-ups and residencies throughout 2012 - i've previously covered his stint at the doodle bar in Battersea and his residency in Soho. 'A one-man burger machine. His previous pop-ups at The Doodle bar, Battersea and Queen of Hoxton, Shoreditch proved wildly popular and his residency at the Endurance pub in Soho has seen rave reviews of his trademark 'Ari Gold' burger and 'Trip chips'.' ...
