Part of the swanky new St James Theatre complex – the first newly built venue of its kind in London for 30 years – this glamorous destination brasserie and designer bar is intended for allcomers, whether they’re attending a show or not. Climb the sinuous marble staircase to reach the expansive open-plan dining room with its unbroken expanses of glass and well-spaced tables. Food is served from breakfast onwards and British themes dominate the menu, from seared scallops with black pudding or heritage tomato and St Tola goats’ cheese salad to whole lemon sole with potted shrimp butter or twice-cooked pork belly with cabbage and Bramley apple sauce. There are also grills and some stoically British puds such as Trinity burnt cream. The bar on the ground floor is handy for nibbles and a glass of wine, or perhaps a snazzy cocktail.
