Family-run Kaosarn has been a hit on Brixton Market thanks to its canteen vibe, punchy Thai food and knockdown prices, but it’s gone slightly upmarket for this second outlet in Battersea. The premises are more spacious than before, with a better kitchen to boot – allowing the chefs to add a few new dishes to the menu (look for the deep-fried whole sea bass with red onions and papaya). Otherwise, all the classics are here – from satays, deep-fried chicken wings and tom yum soup to massaman beef curry, hot tiger prawns with bamboo shoots and red chilli paste or grilled half-chicken served with sticky rice and a green papaya salad. Like the Brixton original, this branch also operates a BYO policy, which simply adds to the terrific value of it all.
