The crew from Paradise by Way of Kensal Green and Camden’s Blues Kitchen hope to introduce some ‘New York-style factory-cool’ to London hedonists with this new bar/nightclub. L&L’s imaginative decor could belong in a Brooklyn hipster lounge – a dramatic window display of doves encircling a neon heart introduces a space that suggests post-punk industrial meets Prohibition bootlegging racket, complete with a secret bar masquerading as a library. During the week, it operates as a funky cocktail lounge: try period pieces such as mint julep, white lady and smoked old-fashioned or favourites including strawberry caipirinha. At weekends, a hefty door charge applies when cred DJs hit the decks for a house party that lasts until 3am; ‘dressing-up box’ and ‘photo-booth’ themes are part of the festival-style fun. Starting at £8 a bottle, premium spirits are cheap by nightclub standards.
