Plenty of pop-ups have been going permanent recently, and the latest to follow the trend is the Black Pig with White Pearls, which has set its Spanish roots in Stoke Newington with an intimate yet trendy offer spread across two floors. Upstairs is a casual tapas/pintxos eatery/bar, with more formal meals served in the basement. Friendly staff greet customers and recite the day’s dishes verbally, while the chef cooks specialiites from his native Extremadura. The eponymous ‘black pig’ (aka. Ibérico pork) naturally features heavily on the menu: the fillet served medium-rare on a bed of roast potatoes is a memorable signature dish. Elsewhere, tapas highlights include rich, fluffy black pudding on toast with piquillo peppers, and the mixed platter of cured meats with slices of jamón is so heavenly you’ll be dreaming about it for weeks.
