Square Meal Review of Dalla Terra ?

An urbane London take on the Italian enoteca, Dalla Terra (‘from the earth’) brings together a café, wine bar and wine boutique in the trendy St. Martin’s Courtyard development. A popular rendezvous for the after-work crowd and a bolthole for Saturday shoppers, it boasts marble surfaces, loungey chairs by an open fire and swanky contemporary detailing, with an all-day kitchen and knowledgeable staff to back things up. Coffees and pastries give way to lunchtime paninis, impeccably sourced charcuterie boards and salads, while dinner is a celebration of seasonal ‘cucina povera’ – think melting beef carpaccio with rocket, caciocavallo cheese shavings and a generously drizzle of truffle oil or confit pork with preserved broad beans. A 180-bin, all-Italian wine list includes many exclusive labels, with over 30 by the glass; all bottles are available to take home.

  1. We’d read some good things about Dalla Terra a while ago and been meaning to try it out for quite some time now. Somehow we never got around to it until now. We’re always in for a good Vinoteca (Italian winebar) and that’s basically what Dalla Terra is...

  2. Our initial gut feeling about Dalla Terra, a newish little Italian wine bar/restaurant on St Martin’s Courtyard was pretty bad. The reason being one of the waiters made us feel a little intimidated and very unwelcome, I think if we hadn’t been reviewing we would have just walked out. Questions regarding how many small plates we should order were met with sarcasm. Staggeringly when we asked which wine the waiter recommended he shrugged his shoulders, wine is what this place is all about! We were after some Puglian wine but they were all out apparently. We were also snootily asked what price range we fell into, as if judging us by our appearance, I think he felt we didn’t fit in with the suited clientele and have suitable spending power...
