Following on from their thinking diners’ chippy in Hammersmith, Kerbisher & Malt have extended their west London offer with a branch in Ealing. Occupying a modern, blue-and-white dining room with a beach-shack feel, it deals in fresh, sustainably sourced seafood served with soft, thick-cut chips (plus gold-standard tartare sauce and zesty lemon mayo for dipping). Choose your fish battered, breaded in matzo meal or even grilled – perhaps a thick fillet of plaice in a light, crisp coating or golden-brown hunk of butter-soft cod accompanied by anything from mushy peas to a zingy fennel and dill salad. Service is sweet, the short wine list does a good job, and the venue’s layout means that the takeaway queue is cleverly separated from the dining room. Fingers crossed, K&M will decide to open their next outlet in central London.
