Although the name is Spanish (it translates as ‘dining room’), South America is the foodie reference point at this refurbished eatery on Islington’s main drag. The kitchen is visible through a glass panel, allowing punters to watch the action as chefs grill slabs of Argentinian beef and prepare other staples of Latin American cuisine. Ceviches, empanadas, quinoa-stuffed aubergine and chicken aji panca (strips of marinated breast in chilli sauce with yellow potatoes and huancaína sauce) could give way to a massive 700g churrasco steak with, say, rocoto pepper sauce and yuca chips, while dessert might bring traditional alfajores biscuits with dulce de leche and lemon sorbet. Comedor also turns tricks as a drinking haunt with a lively list of South American wines and a 70-strong roster of pisco sours, mojitos, piña coladas, margaritas and other cocktails.
