Part of the Sportsman Casino – a top-end gaming establishment hidden away just off Oxford Street – Zaman caters for a grown-up crowd with its relaxed vibe, stunning bar and sultry dining room. The restaurant name suggests something rather exotic, and chef Mahmud Zaman obliges with a menu that globetrots from the Mediterranean to the Far East and back again. Start with crispy aromatic duck and pancakes or lobster, avocado and crab salad, move on to Singapore noodles, chicken biryani or farruj mussahab (whole boneless baby chicken with garlic sauce), and bring it all back home with sticky toffee pudding or crème caramel. Fixed-price ‘club’ menus are great value at £12.95 for two courses. A late-night Arabic disco, live music and belly dancing add some sinuous thrills most evenings – Ramadan excepted.
