‘If portly politicians could cast gastro-votes then the Kennington Tandoori would win by a landslide’, noted one reader who has clocked several well-known Westminster faces in this discreet dining room – all earthy colours and dim, recessed lighting with the occasional oversized flower arrangement for dramatic effect. The menu dresses up its offer with exotic-sounding names (‘murgh tikka hare plaza’ is actually a take on chicken tikka masala), but the results are reckoned to be on the money – although spicing is pretty vigorous. Biryanis, baltis, bhunas and other curry-house standbys share the bill with marinated scallops in peri-peri masala, Goan lamb vindaloo, South Indian fish kofta curry and Chennai sambar (vegetables in rich lentil sauce). Also check out the special ‘drink of the day’ from the KT bar – saffron G&T or green Pimm’s anyone?
