Otherwise, summer quaffs such as Sipsmith’s fruit cup with ginger ale, elderflower fizz, British kir royale or homemade lemonade with Chase potato vodka have patriotic, Enid Blyton appeal and play to the half-timbered pub’s cottagey Arts & Crafts vibe. Simple seasonal cooking yields Gloucester Old Spot bangers on pea mash (£8.75), wild salmon fishcakes with beetroot salad, risottos, fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel and chocolate tart with clotted cream, as well as Saturday brunch, Sunday roasts and bar nibbles (whitebait, Scotch eggs, sausage rolls, sarnies with fries).
