Square Meal Review of Coya ?

‘Loud and glitzy’ Coya comes courtesy of restaurateur Arjun Waney (Roka, Zuma) and brings some super-luxe Peruvian cool to London’s scene, with sumptuously distressed Latin overtones, ethnic colours, native music and metallic finishes – although some think the overall effect can be rather ‘touristy and cheesy’. The basement restaurant puts on a serious face and the kitchen (headed by ex-Zaika chef Sanjay Dwivedi) offers everything from ‘imaginatively flavoured’ ceviches, tiraditos and anticuchos (juicy, ‘piquantly spiced’ ox heart with parsley and rococto chilli, say) to competent offerings from the centre-piece parrilla and Josper grills, although we’re particularly fond of the cheaper items and little extras – corn chips and shrimp crackers with salsas, grilled chicken skewers, succulent pork ribs, and so on. Uber-trendy staff with polyglot accents are as cool as the plates of marinated fish they serve, and there’s also a show-off ‘speakeasy’ bar dispensing wacky pisco sours. ‘Go for the crowd’, advises one reader.

  1. Coya is a super cool Peruvian Restaurant and Bar which has a touch of the theatrical to it. Brought to us by restaurateur Arjun Waney who is responsible for other famous restaurants such as Roka and Zuma, the décor is a mixture of sumptuous furnishings and a fabulous colour scheme that combines vibrancy with a distressed metallic finish. There is a basement restaurant and bar as well as a dedicated members area on the ground floor. The menu has been designed for sharing and puts up a broad offering of ceviche, tiraditos (similar to sashimi), anticuchos (grilled skewers) and small bites alongside a mixture of meat and fish mains. Peruvian in inspiration, there are touches of the eclectic to it with some Asian twists thrown in...

Brunch etc. :: Amazing Peruvian cuisine at Coya

Coya is a cool new Peruvian joint situated on Piccadilly, right next to Green Park. It has a trendy bar where you can sample the excellent selection of cocktails (try the pisco sours, if you want something really authentic) and Latin American liquors, or you can head straight to the restaurant proper for a divine collection of modern Peruvian dishes. Before I start, let me just say - these photos do not do justice to our meal, which featured some of the best Latin American food I've had (in London, or - to be honest - anywhere)...

  4. Coya is a one of a spade of recent Peruvian restaurants that opened in London recently. Coya is a concept by the same owner of Zuma (see review) and Roka (see review). We’re a big fan of Roka and therefore decided to pay Coya a visit. Coya is located in between Green Park and Hyde Park corner. The first thing that hits you when you enter the imposing building that houses Coya is…the heat (warm air is blown onto entering guests to give them the impression of entering a Peruvian climate). The restaurant consists of a bar area, members area (do they still exist??..they’re .so 90′s) and the restaurant itself, which is quite beautifully decorated with Peruvian artefacts and colours....
