Despite a please-all promise of Eastern-inspired cocktails and Asian grub, it will take a lot more work before the Queenstown Road faithful start worshipping at this new bar. With a better soundtrack, more bustle and some natural light in the utilitarian interiors, you’d happily forgive a well-priced cocktail menu that leans towards novelty – our red lotus (vodka, lychee liqueur, fruit syrups and pineapple juice) was fun but super-sweet. However, unless you need to soak up some booze, stick to the liquids – the food on our visit lurched from mediocre to downright lazy. Duck spring rolls were so heavily deep-fried they would have shattered if dropped, while a red fish curry was little more than able home cooking. Meanwhile, a rock-hard banoffi pie filled with toffee and sliced banana, then topped with squirty cream, was pure lethargy. Best visited on a boozy weekend night.
