Following a makeover and some re-branding, the Urban Leisure Group have re-launched what was 22 Below on Great Marlborough Street as Central & Co – a contemporary venue with a brasserie/bar on the ground floor and a more intimate drinking space downstairs. Expect a tasteful mix of brass chandeliers, marble tables, polished concrete and vintage wall lights, with touches of art deco and a menu inspired by artisan British ingredients – especially rare-breed meats from a Yorkshire farming family, and dairy produce from a herd of pedigree Ayrshire cows in Cornwall. Seasonal small plates are the mainstays, with useful back up from breakfast and afternoon tea. The focus of the main bar is a refrigerated ‘wall’ showcasing a vast selection of sparkling wines from around the globe – some of which appear in fizzy cocktails.
