Bar legend Oskar Kinberg is the chilled spirit guide at Ollie Dabbous’ instantly fashionable basement bar (also known as Oskar's Bar). Premium brands inform a range of seasonal swallows, headed by a line-up of Kinberg’s own recipes including sloe gin punch, the accomplice (Diplomatico rum and greengages), and mellow yellow (Tapatio blanco tequila, Cointreau, cigar syrup, yellow pepper and lime in an Ardbeg-rinsed martini glass). Decisions are difficult – especially when well-executed classics such as sazerac, clover club and aviation also demand attention. Enjoy wines from £4.50, plus bar snacks along the lines of black pudding with mango chutney and a fried organic egg or crispy chicken wings with fenugreek and toasted garlic (£5). The raw industrial design of this butch bunker, warmed up with woods and washed London brick, is an antidote to London’s current vogue for over-stuffed, over-styled speakeasy nouveau. Fitzrovia’s media mavens quite rightly love it.
