Open early for English breakfasts, the bright, jazzy cantina at Hideaway’s live music lounge is a useful hangout for Streathamites. A magic upright piano (no pianist required) tinkles in the background, while a back catalogue of guest artistes’ gigs is shown on screens in high-quality sound. To drink, there are French and Italian wines from merchants Chix & Buck, whose franchised wine bar (open from noon) boasts an Enomatic dispense system offering over a dozen selections by the glass. Bottled beers and cocktails are also particularly popular at weekends. A meal deal at just under £20 buys two courses and a half-bottle of wine: choose from homemade soups, tricolore salad, salmon and haddock fishcakes, Spanish-style chicken, butternut squash risotto or jerk chicken, plus a roster of puds. Otherwise, pancakes, croques and deli platters should suffice.
