Square Meal Review of The Wet Fish Cafe ?

From the early 1900s these premises really were a West Hampstead ‘wet fish shop’, and the current owners have restored some of the building’s original features – including lovely art deco wall tiles. Seafood is still the main business, although it’s now transformed into modern-sounding dishes such as scallops with leek vinaigrette and sweetcorn purée, steamed sea bass with polenta gnocchi and tomato beurre blanc or pappardelle with scallops. Meat eaters and veggies also get a look in, and desserts could bring roast fig cheesecake with Amaretto mascarpone. Early-bird menus, weekend brunch and ‘epic’ weekday lunch deals (one dish plus a drink for £6) keep demand high, likewise occasional acoustic gigs and art exhibitions. To drink, don’t miss the WFC martini – otherwise check out the lively selection of Italian and New World wines.
