True to the Shoreditch original (now closed), Saf in Kensington works to a 100% botanical vegan menu, with much that is raw or cooked below 48ºC (to preserve nutrients). However, worthy overtones have no place at this modern vegan: chilled asparagus soup with lemon jam & crème fraîche, or miso-cured tofu with wakame set the tone, while mains of pumpkin risotto or Thai curry with aubergine & snake beans swim in the foodie mainstream. Elsewhere, popular Saf bowls of parsnip rice, kimchi, avocado & courgette noodles will be familiar to fans of super-food salads. It’s an attractive, wholly eco space, with sizeable tables for communal meals. Wines are biodynamic, & the wacky organic cocktails are worth exploring.
