A better bet than most of the voguish speakeasy-style bars currently flooding the capital, the Lucky Pig is well worth hogging. What was a dreary dive has been transformed into a witty, art nouveau-inspired space in the style of a good-time hoochie-coochie joint (check out the curtained-off booths). In the evening, dolled-up girls serve a range of spiffing quaffs: juleps, cobblers, rickeys & slings have period appeal, while New Orleans hurricane is stiffer than any Bacardi breezer. Champagne cocktails such as fruity Isadora belle represent value at £7.50, & the list of cocktails runs from silk stockings to a properly tart aviation. Elsewhere, experimental ideas move into alco-dessert territory for apples & pears or Grey Goose poire creamola foam. Sub-£20 wines, moreish bar bites & an upright piano for singalongs & Scott Joplin rags complete a pretty picture.
