There aren’t many steakhouses that you’d visit purely for its drinks list, but Hawksmoor does booze as impressively as beef. The bar at its third branch is a shabby-chic den of comfy leather banquettes & wooden parquet flooring with an uptempo soundtrack, but it’s roomy enough to avoid elbow bumping. The eccentric cocktail list (divided into ‘anti-fogmatics’, ‘pre-prandials’ & suchlike) has some intriguing concoctions such as Dr Funk swizzle (rum, falernum, lime, homemade grenadine, Angostura bitters, absinthe) & shipwreck sour (Somerset cider brandy, Cognac, ginger wine, lemon & egg white), while London breweries Meantime & Kernel provide the ale. You can eat from the full restaurant menu (aged steaks with beef-dripping chips & grilled bone marrow, et al), but additional bar nibbles include lobster rolls (a whopping £25 each), braised beef short-rib sandwiches & the now-famous Hawksmoor hamburger.
