Square Meal Review of Androuet ?

The legendary House of Androuet was set up in Paris in 1909 & is universally recognised as a grandee among cheesemongers. In addition to outlets in the French capital & Stockholm, it’s now resident in London with a shop/restaurant amid the throngs of Old Spitalfields Market. Androuet’s opulent interiors are as legendary as its dairy products, & this branch is no exception with flamboyant chandeliers, intricately printed wallpapers & swathes of washed-our velvet adding some bourgeois glamour to the whiffy proceedings. Shoppers can enjoy a field day among the displays of ripe specimens, but those wanting to eat also have plenty to relish. Quiches, tartiflettes, fondues & raclette are the mainstays, but the kitchen’s repertoire stretches to plates of charcuterie, rillettes & terrines, plus cheeseburgers, wild mushrooms with Fourme d’Ambert, or Toulouse sausage & mash (with la tomme fraîche). There’s a desirable alfresco terrace too.

    Champagne and Chutney :: Androuet

    When it comes to cheese, I trust the French wholeheartedly and when my friend Florence (a Parisian) suggested that we try out this little French restaurant and fromagerie at the edge of old Spitalfields market called Androuet, I was definitely not going to say no. I was in London last weekend so took Florence up on the offer and we decided to meet up for brunch at Androuet along with Jake and Seb. The legendary House of Androuet was set up in Paris in 1909 & is universally recognised as a grandee among cheesemongers. From Camembert to Comté, Reblochon to Roquefort and Swiss Gruyere to Italian Mozzarella, this place has it all. Along with its other stores in Paris and Stockholm, this tiny little shop in Spitalfields is the place to be if you like cheese...

    FoodiesOnTheProwl FoodiesOnTheProwl :: Androuet, Aug 2013

    Cheese, cheese, cheese…it’s all cheese I tells ya. Yes, that’s right Androuet is one cheesy place (in a very good French kinda way) and they do them well. When in need of some cheese, this is the perfect place to visit. Located in trendy Shoreditch (one of the restaurants/shops around Spitalfields market), Androuet supplies the hipsters in the area with their cheese-fix. Most will know Androuet as a cheese delicatessen shop, but the shop also has a bistro-type restaurant attached to it. Every dish on the menu incorporates cheese and if you like cheese (we love it) and wine then this is a very interesting place to visit...
