Gilbert's Bar is now called Blitz, as we found out when we were walking up and down Adelaide Street trying to find it! We booked a table after the theatre on Saturday night and it was fantastic. We were there between 7 and 9pm and it was quiet but the music was good and there was still a good atmosphere. I had a Cosmo Cocktail then we enjoyed some Prosceco with our meal. The food and the service were both fantastic. Highly recommend Blitz Bar/Restaurant to anyone.

Very well located from Charing X, quite nice decor and while it looks pleasant, it's not very “atmospheric”. Place was very quiet at around 6:30 on a Wednesday night, and we were there for a good 2.5 hours and it didn't get much busier. Despite this, service was achingly slow and poor waitress seemed to be clueless about menu and drinks. The website advertised a pre theatre deal, which is why I booked the table, but on enquiry was informed that was an out of date offer. Thought about insisting upon it (if it's offered they are obliged to stick by their claim), but didn't want to embarrass my guest – my mum!
Wine list was great, I had a very good white. Shared a starter of grilled sardines – they were luke warm and came with no bread (which you must have with sardines to mop up the tiny bones – that's fairly basic sense). Tasty, but can't forgive cold food.
We had sea bass and pork fillet respectively. The sea bass was declared basic but tasty. My pork fillet was overcooked but quite well seasoned. The accompanying peas and carrots were clearly out of a frozen bag and microwaved, the baby carrots tasted bland and the texture had that odd microwaved texture I can't put into words. The new potatoes were fairly tasty. Overall the dish was again lukewarm and very bland – there was no sauce to come with the dry pork, potatoes and veg. On asking for some mayonnaise I was told they had none, and when I asked, exasperated if they had any sause of any description the waitress began to say no, then recovered and asked if gravy would do. Yes! gravy would be fabulous! On her return I was given some rather unpleasant applesauce mixed with some very weak stock – at least that's what it looked like. It was horrible. I also had a bowl rather than a plate, which meant sawing through my pork fillet meant my bowl tipped up and upended my peas
I enjoyed the evening because the place was so empty that my mother and I could talk as loud and long as we cared, but the food was very lacking, and consequently over priced. The waitress was friendly but not well trained (I felt sorry for her), and should have been much quicker as there were only two other tables and no bar guests to attend to.
The toilets were in need of more regular cleaning. Although I did like that they had individual hand towels in addition to a hand dryer, I didn't use the towels as I wondered how well they were laundered given the unattended toilets. I would not go back there, unless pizza express around the corner closes down!
