Anyone familiar with The Oak in Westbourne Grove will recognise the style at its new sibling – a recently converted, one-time boozer not far from Olympia. Despite its pubby name, The Bird in Hand is now essentially an Italian neighbourhood eatery specialising in rustic regional flavours. On offer, you are likely to find a range of cichetti snacks (artichoke fritters, say) as well as mixed antipasti and around a dozen different pizzas; alternatively, look to the starters and mains – perhaps mackerel escabèche with saffron potato and parsley salad ahead of roast rump of lamb with caponata and spinach, linguine with clams or roast cod with Jersey royals and green olives. The wine list has some robust Italian bottles in addition to decent stuff from elsewhere in Europe, alongside Italian cocktails and proper Italian coffee.
