Since opening in December 2010, Quantus has more than held its own among the local competition, despite pitching tent opposite Gallic powerhouse La Trompette. Friendly waiters welcome you into the bijou interior: an understated space with exposed brickwork, hanging light-fittings & a cream & black colour scheme. A few South American influences aside, the good-value menu has a modish, European slant, witness starters of scallops with parsnip purée, or grilled aubergine, basil & lemon soup. Mains could include a hulking rib-eye with chimichurri sauce, or a more adventurous magret de canard with sweet potato purée, rouille, & orange & chilli marmalade; pudding fanciers might feast on amaretto peaches with mascarpone & a honey & rosemary syrup. A well-thought-out wine list provides the accompaniment. Already, Quantus has become a neighbourhood favourite.
